The Britannia Inn is an 18th century building which in 1743 was opened as a school for impoverished girls to provide them with an education, supported by the then Lord Digby. The Brit is located within a stones throw of the beautiful Sherborne Abbey.You can take a leisurely stroll around this ancient town to enjoy the history and styles of the architecture, including the Abbey, the Conduit, where the Monks used to wash and the two Castles and associated gardens attributed to Sir Walter Raleigh and Capability Brown respectively. There is also the world renowned Sherborne School, including the Boys, Girls and International operations, housed in the 16th century Abbey's monastic buildings and throughout the town. We are ideally situated for a few journeys further afield such as Cerne Abbas to see the giant in all his splender!, the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, the Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford or the many National Trust and English Heritage sites across the county. Wincanton Racecourse is only half an hour away for those who fancy a weekend break to take in a meeting and transport can be arranged for you through our partner taxi companies. We are able to offer you a choice of bedrooms. We have a double with en-suite facilities. Our family room can also be occupied as a double or twin and again has en-suite facilities. We also can offer a single room with a private bathroom adjacent. All rooms have been refurbished to a good standard. Should you arrive by car, your vehicle can be parked in our car park, located to the side of the Britannia. From now until the end of March 2012 we have "Value Break" offers on our rooms with a minimum two night stay costing from only £50 including breakfast.
A hearty English breakfast is included in our room rate and is normally served in our dining room between 7.30 and 9.00. We also serve traditional pub food between 12 and 2 and again between 6.30 and 8.15, except for Wednesdays and Sunday evening. We have been awarded a "4 star"(very good), rating for food hygiene and cleanliness by West Dorset District Council.
Our two bar operation offers a variety of entertainment from darts to pool, a digital jukebox, free wireless internet access and your chance to try your arm at Skittles in our alley. Alternatively, you can sit in the lounge and have a quiet chat about what the day brought you and what you may be doing the following day!
We are pleased to be able to offer our bar customers a full SKY SPORTS & ESPN package which includes Football, Rugby League and Union, Golf, Cricket, Formula One Grand Prix and Speedway. Our split bar operation means we can show two separate events/games at the same time. We have improved our sound system in the lounge to offer you an enhanced Sky Sports experience when you watch live sport here. Why not come and experience it for yourself!!
