Sue and John would like to thank you for visiting their web site.
The Britannia Inn is an 18th century building which in 1743 was opened as a school for impoverished girls to provide them with an education, supported by the then Lord Digby. The Brit is located just around the corner from the beautiful Sherborne Abbey and you can take a leisurely stroll around this ancient town to enjoy the history and styles of the architecture, including the Conduit, where the Monks used to wash themselves and the two Castles and associated gardens attributed to Sir Walter Raleigh and Capability Brown respectively. There is also the world renowned Sherborne School housed in the abbey's monastic buildings. We are ideally situated for a few journeys further afield such as Cerne Abbas to see the giant in all his splender!, the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton, the Haynes International Motor Museum at Sparkford or the many National Trust and English Heritage sites across the county. Wincanton Racecourse is only half an hour away for those who fancy a weekend break to take in a meeting and transport can be arranged for you through our partner taxi companies. More information is available for you when you stay with us.
We are able to offer you a choice of rooms when you stay with us. We have a double and a family room, both en-suite as well as a single room with a private bathroom adjacent. All rooms have been refurbished to a good standard. Your vehicle can be parked in our car park, located to the side of the Britannia.
A hearty English breakfast is included in our room rate and is normally served in our dining room between 8.30 and 9.00. We also serve meals between 12 and 2 and again between 6.30 and 8.30. Our two bar operation offers a variety of entertainment from darts to pool, a digital jukebox, quiz machine, free wireless internet access and your chance to try your arm at Skittles in our alley. Alternatively, you can sit in the lounge and have a quiet chat about what the day brought you and what you may be doing the following day.
Have you heard about a different way of supporting this trade? You can now buy vouchers from Pubtokens, an organisation that sells tokens to various values that can be exchanged by you at a variety of hostelries such as The Brit. To find out more go onto their web site -

On the third Friday of each month we hold "Acoustica," an evening of unplugged musical entertainment. It's an evening of varied musical tastes that's open to anyone and starts at 8.30pm. In addition to this we are featuring live music once a month. Our next entertainment on July 24th sees the first performance at The Brit of te hugely talented Elijah Wolfe. Check him out on his web sites and appreciate the talent that will be here for you for free to enjoy.
We aim to make your stay at The Brit one you wish to remember and we look forward to welcoming you to our historic pub.
